I'm using a Dell at the moment but I'm in the market for a laptop. Just scratched Dell firmly off my list. |

Me? No.
You need to look at this in a less personal way. It is sad and not good news for those who are losing work, but multinationals go where they can get the best deal. They really don't care about anything other than that. It was a business decision.
Cruel and callous? Yes, very - but that is how multinationals are. This is nothing new. Think about it; before those jobs came to Ireland they were someone elses. Who lost jobs to the Irish? Did the Irish consider those people when trying to attract Dell and other companies to Ireland? And now the work has moved yet again. Dell will likely leave Poland too eventually.
Besides, Dell are not great machines. Go Mac. |

'Fraid I've already got a couple of laptops, and this dell precision is (touch wood) bl@@dy brilliant.
Lots of companies have moved work stations. Remember Dyson, oh yeah, and how about British Steel? The fact is our world is dependent on, and governed by economics. It is thankfully not QUITE as dependent as it was on the petrodollar, but still, dosh counts. Also, give them a break for trying to keep their costs down when as an industry their competitors costs are inherently reducing extremely rapidly because of technological development ploughing forward at an unprecedented rate.
In the last five years development has equalled that which took place in the last fifty years, and the rate is increasing faster than the technocrats can keep up with it. Even now, computers design computers, and computers program computers. Every penny counts, so we can keep on schedule....what schedule? |

When faced with an economic recession do you
A: Stay in Ireland and face certain bankruptcy
B: Go elsewhere where there is a chance you might survive it.
Because I'm sure Dell are just doing what they're doing to spite us.
I will have no issues buying Dell. |

No way. I bought online, a new iMac from Apple in Cork. It was delivered the next day.
Keep supporting Apple in Cork or they might go under as well. |
