Would Barack Obama be miffed if he found out that his Irish counterpart was earning $80,000 more than him? |
Yes folks, Brian Cowen earns $80,000 more per anum than the leader of the Free World.
Compare the 2 countries - United States, population: 300 million, GDP: 14 trillion dollars.
Ireland, population: 4 million, GDP: 260 billion.
This is not April 1st. No wonder the country is going down the tubes when our politicians are riding the gravy train all the way to oblivion.
Obama would be better off if he came over here and ran the country, he'd be much more financially secure and he'd have his lovely pension at the end of it.
Can he do it? YES HE CAN! |

Madness. Maybe we should forget this whole EU business and apply to become the 51st state, getting rid of the need for Cowen & co altogether. There's quite a few cowboys in FF and FG who'd fit right in to the Republican party, Gilmore & crew could become blue collar Democrats and the rest have the sort of ethics that would see them do well as lobbyists for the tobacco companies and arms industry. Obama could relocate the capital to Ireland - DC inside the Beltway is like an island anyways - with a new White House being built in Offaly -nothing to do with Cowan, but isn't that where the O'Bamas came from? All the illegal Iish would become perfectly legal out-of-staters overnight, and it would finally make sense of that weird Valley-girl accent that seems to be gripping our nations teens and young adults. |

No. I'm sure he wouldn't give two hoots.
Nice to see that euro is doing so well, as someone else has mentioned here. Was worth 95 pence two weeks back. Now worth 87 pence. So it really is outperforming the British sterling. NOT. |

Any person in their right mind would find it hard to believe and the Irish find it even harder to swallow at the moment..oh except for Seanie that is! |

yeah
especially when Obama will actually do things, as opposed to Cowen or Lenihan who just sit there and destroy the country's future. |

Why can't that excuse for a Taoiseach work for 11.50 an hour like everybody else? |
|

The Irish Taoiseach is the highest paid country leader in the world.
The coutry's in the midst of a very serious recession that was in no part helped by Brian "Mugabe" Cowen's inept time as Minister for Finance and he has the nerve to give himself somewhere in the region of €250,000 - €400,000 a year.
A government report stated that they need to generate an extra €16.5 billion over the next four years through the inevitable tax hikes, public service cuts and pay freezes/decreases. That is a HUGE sum of money particularly when you consider how small our country is. To put it into context, that is 154% of the government's total spending on services in 2008. If they can't make up that money to put it simply we're screwed, bollixed, ******.
And as he pontificates about everyone suffering for their country, for the greater good, he's on that money. Not to mention the fat pension.
A disgrace |

Where do you get your information? Most people on YA are more qualified to run a country than Obama is. 143 days of working in the US Senate? No way Jose! Count your blessings you don't have Obama. I guess the grass always looks greener from the other side. Hopefully, he'll be revealed to be the empty suited charlatan that he is and will be ousted soon. Send him a one way ticket. He's all yours. And no, I don't want your loser. Keep them both! |

Im sure Obama wouldnt be worried, im sure that he will receive political contributions that may endup elsewhere, not to mention corporation |

I think that's more the fault of the US economy than anything else. The dollar is practically worthless atm, the Euro is actually doing very well at the moment (better than the Bristish Sterling Pound) but the only reason it's doing so well is because every other currency is doing so badly.
And Barack Obama (although not earning the same amount as Mr Cowen) has more power and influence, and much more at his disposal. |
