Your ideal Ireland...?

What would be some major changes you'd like to make Ireland an ideal place?
Mine: Vegetarian, Animal rights Ireland
Proud Celtic, United Irish speaking Ireland
The Greenest (enviormentally) country in Europe

I could go on and on for pages but those are the main things

Raver I so get you, a Nigerian family just moved into my council house street, they're getting cheap housing when we have so many homeless Irish. I'm complaing to the council this weekend, we can't make the same mistakes as Britian

Aobhríl, I swear to God you've had more identity changes than a piece of play dough.

I really don't understand how you can be so progressive in your thinking about animal rights and yet are unwilling to offer those same rights to human beings who happen to have been born outside Ireland.

The requirements for getting on to council housing lists are quite structured. Homeless Irish people have a number of supports available to them to try and reintegrate them into society (look at the website of Focus Ireland or the Simon community if you want to know more). Many homeless people have problems with addiction or mental health problems. Very few are homeless because there aren't enough council houses - at present in Ireland nationwide there is more council housing available than there is demand for.

The first thing I would do in MY ideal Ireland would be the introduction of mandatory intercultural awareness training for all citizens in order to avoid the growth of racism and bigotry that affects so many other countries and the Irish version of which you exemplify so well.

- More tolerant and inclusive of ALL people

- Equal access for all to healthcare

Celtic? There'd probably be about 5 people left in the country. Nobody can trace their ancestors back for 2000 years.

I agree about the countryside, and I'd also like to see fewer high-rise buildings being built in the cities.

I would say a united ireland (but only if ulster wanted to join I don't like the idea of them being forced into it) a gaelic speaking ireland and an ireland that you can find jobs in! Plenty of jobs for everyone and for irish people to stop being racist to other people that are coming into the country its very hypocritical considering that was us invading other peoples countries a few years ago

ireland united as one with no british power! a good government, better health service, more open countryside(towns keep on getting bigger expanding out into the countryside!)

Priscilla is bang on. I worked for many years in the city council, and whether people know this, a single man is a higher priority than a single parent....where's the sense in that? We have homeless Irish because they choose that. There is emergency funding there, with some restrictions, i.e they are giving a cheque for a certain sum, and they are 'supposed' to use that for emergency accomodation. If they produce the receipt for the emergency accomodation, then they are given another cheque for the following night, and so on, but they must do this themselves. It is not up to the social system to chase them and throw cheques at them, if you want to help, you must look and get it.
Animal rights, I agree with you 100%. It is disgraceful they way people are using cats as sponge bags for bonfires, and cattle and horses being neglected so terribly.
The country side, I would agree too, but the cities are getting so much bigger, the city council and the county councils are fighting re: borders, it is the county who ultimately decide "yes, we will give you a little more land", I don't agree with it, but its a government issue, yet again.
Green...we're doing much better than some of our counterparts, so we will get their eventually, how bout talking to Mr. Binman about reducing his prices, and I wouldn't have to burn most of my rubbish in my fire.

I like the idea of a United Irish speaking Ireland.
we should look after our own first then anyone else. anyone who wasn't born here but live here are far better looked after than say our homeless people or people who don't earn as much as others. the safest and the least crime riddled country in Europe or the world.
