If you are treated bad in Italy it is only because they have a reputation for treating all foreign women badly - or good - depending on how much you like being hit, hooted at and whistled after obnoxiously by hot Italian men.

I am Black and I have been to Italy without a problem. I think as long as you do not cause a problem you will not have a problem.

The Italians are very nice, hospitable people, especially if you are a young woman and make an effort to speak some Italian. You'll be fine.

Just one thing... I think your being tall may have to do more with your father being part Dutch. I was astonished to see how tall the people in the Netherlands were. I'm 5'3", just about average height in my country, but when I went to the bathroom at a coffee shop and looked myself in the mirror all I could see was the top of my head because the mirror was placed so high on the wall.

We just got back from Rome and if the rest of Italy is like Rome you should not have any problems. There are so many tourists from all over the world and we saw people of all kinds of ethnic backgrounds travelling without any problems. However, just like small towns anywhere where ignorance and prejudice seem to thrive you might have a little more difficulty in towns that are not so tourist oriented, but can that happens anywhere in the world.

definitely you should go to Italy, at least you can see something beautiful and unique. you will find friendly, welcoming and polite people.

forget USA, there is nothing special and if you need an idea about its people, just look at their president and then you'll have all.
