You'll have more options if you fly out from New York (JFK airport or Newark-Liberty Int'l airport / EWR). Delta Air Lines and Alitalia flies from JFK to Rome-Fiumicino airport (FCO) and Milan-Malpensa airport (MXP). Continental Airlines and Alitalia flies from Newark (EWR) to both Italian airports.

From Miami Int'l airport (MIA), Alitalia is the only airline flying non-stop to Milan (MXP) and no non-stop flight to Rome (FCO).

Another option you might consider is to fly from Philadelphia Int'l Airport (PHL) to Italy. US Airways has a non-stop flight from PHL to Rome (FCO) every day of the week with a flight time of 8 hours and 25 minutes. If you are going to Milan, US Airways has a non-stop flight on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a flight time of 7 hours and 55 minutes.

The price of the ticket will depend on when you are going to Italy. If you know the date, you can check travel website such as Orbitz, Travelocity, etc. Also, you can check individual airline's websites.

Congratulations and enjoy your trip.
