I'd recommend this restaurant in Trastevere called Vizi Capitali (i.e. 7 deadly sins). Booking is essential! The chef cooks for pleasure not money, it's recommended by my colleague with 'connections'.

The Italian starts their dinner at 9pm so I'd recommend booking at 9pm :-). When I arrived at 9pm, I was the only table. By the time I left there're only 4 tables. The chef turned down 3 groups because they didn't make booking. He's the pioneer of the 'slow food' concept.
I was abit surprised by the bill because thought I'd pay a fortune. This has to be one of the best lemon fish I've ever tasted.
The settings are quite romantic and just have a nice feeling :-).
Anyways back to the food, You can get degustation menu of meat or seafood for 35 euros plus wine (cost extra). I chose seafood degustation dinner and this is what I got:
- Antipasti platter consist of grilled octopus with olives, bufallo mozarellas dressed in mayo, lobster/linguistine in cocktail sauce, bruschetta with cheese, olived spread and anchovies
- First course is prawn pasta with 'sin' pesto (very yummy)
- Second course is THE BEST Lemon fish I've ever had (served with roast potatoes)
- Dessert is sooo damn good, I was so full but gorged them anyways (it's 2 mini cups of orange sorbet and choc mouse) not to heavy to finish a really nice meal.
If you want a more down to earth restaurant, it's just round the corner from Vizi capitali called Pizzeria Nerone. You can just pop in or make a booking :-). When I went there, All were Italians (consist of mixed group of friends having great time and doing some catch up dinner).
With my sign language and english, I managed to order:
- Zucchini flowers with mozarella cheese fried in a parcel of flour (sooo damn nice)
- Smoked Salmon, shrimps, olives, slice oranges pizza served with Rocket salad on top
- Calzone (Closed pizza) of mozarella cheese, proscuitto, basil served with Rocket, baby tomatoes and olive salad
- A bottle of their Nebiollo wines!
This place is so down to earth and has excelent food and ambient. It's good to be in a place where none of the tourists go and only the Italians who knows good time and good food go :-)
Pizzeria Nerone
Via del Moro, 43
Roma, Trastevere
Tel 0658301756
FYI - Trastevere is the restaurant area in Rome, this is where the Romans go out for dinner :-).
Have fun! you'll have a good time with your gf. Just make sure you go for a stroll after dinner as it's very romantic with the bridges and quaint area of Trastevere :-). You'll have no problem with taxi late night either (or you can catch Trastevere trainif you still can make it). |

No contest. Best meal I have ever had in my entire life. (Do yourself a favor and don't eat all day until you go here.)
Near the Pantheon is a little hole in the wall restaurant called Due Colonne. (Possibly Duo Colonne, not sure of spelling.) It is very low cost, and I could not get over how unbelievably amazing the food was.
All I have to say is, order the walnut ravioli, your life will never be the same. These guys could be charging $200 a plate in New York City. |
