American or English style Restaurants in Rome, Italy.? |
My parents are heading to Rome in mid-January. They generally do not eat pasta, pizza or risotto and loathe garlic.
Can anyone recommend inexpensive American or English style burger, fries, salad etc... restaurants (NOT McDonalds)?
I know this is heresy in such a food-rich culture but I know that they will not change their ways. Additional Details Angel - I know, thanks, but I need to know exactly where. |

I have been in Rome this year in March and I am sure in Trastevere (= over the river) they can find MANY little restaurants with TOURISTIC MENUs - 10 EURO (enough for 2 persons) - not ONLY Italian food...fish, pork, chicken...and salads...and wine!
If they want to try...(at least ONCE - they should try),... the best pizza I had in Rome is made by Pizzeria IL VELIERO, "SICILIA IN BOCCA", Via Emanuele Filiberto, 199 - this is awesome! they can ask for small slices - because all are delicious - but the one with EGG PLANTS, tomato sause and BASILICUM is mmmmm....wonderful! |

mmm...i don't think any italian would eat at english restaurant! i really don't think you'll find one in rome...
by the way...the mania to put garlic on food isn't italian at all, our food doeasn't taste like garlic, we don't have "garlic bread"...just american-english would eat this s--t...
italian food isn't your italian food, i would suggest to try it out... it's not just pasta and pizza!! we have the most variety of food in the world, world just know 1/1000000 of real italian food!!
just to give you the idea: in italy a place where is sold just burger, fries and salad isn't even called restaurant... |

There are lots of Italian foods that are not pasta or pizza or risotto. Order a second course "secondo" which will be a choice of meat "carne" or fish "pesce".
Meat might be lamb[agnello],beef,[manzo] veal,[vitello] or pork[maiale]. The fish in Rome is particularly good, but tends to be expensive.
There may be American Restaurants but we have never seen one. |

If you don't want them to go to McDonalds & C., better you simply try to persuade your parents there's absolutely nothign bad in going to a restaurant in Italy and asking for something different than "pizza" (which, by the way, in most restaurants is not even served) or "pasta". It's definitely not going to be taken as a lacke of respect to the owner of the restaurants or to Italians, if this is the issue...
Menus in restaurants are so rich they're SURE going to find a lot of things compatible with their taste.
By the way, if you lived in Italy, you should know the one about tons of garlic in Italian fod is just a legend... turned into reality in Italian-American food... |
