You can either take the Bus to Roma Termini or take the shuttle to the train station in Ciampino and take the train to Roma Termini. If you've got a lot of luggage, it would be worth it to get a taxi to your hotel from Roma Termini. You can also take the metro to the Colosseo stop. Even cheaper is to walk if you don't have too much luggage - it's about 20 minutes to the Colosseum down via Cavour.

If you're staying at the Capo d'Africa, there are a number of good restaurants in the neighborhood. The Colosseum is in the area near the Palatine Hill and the Forum. There are some tourist restaurants in the area, but I generally stay away from them. La Taverna dei Fori Imperiali would be a good choice. Due Colone has a good risotto.

There are a number of areas in Rome for nightlife - there are a lot of discos and clubs in Testaccio. Piazza Navona has a number of good bars. Trastevere is another popular area for nightlife.

you'll be surprised how easy it is to get around Rome by just walking

get a good map, walk east toward the Pantheon for good late night restaurants and bars

best nightlife is an easy walk north to Piazza Navonna

Get the Roma Pass - it is a good deal. You can enter the colosseum and forum, plus the borghese or one other museum and have public transport for three days with it. It is sold by the city of Rome, Costs 23 Euro and you can get it here http://www.romapass.it/?l=en

outside Ciampino airport you will see a bus queue, get on the bus that says 'Termine' on the front, it costs about 6 euro i think.
when you get to termine (its like the central station in Rome) follow the signs (they're all in pictures if you can't read in Italian) to the underground / subway. here you can buy tickets to travel on the tube, ite really cheap. when your on the tube you will notice that every stop has the area name and then the name of whats there, so look for 'colleseum.' Easy
the colleseum is actually a little bit out of the way in rome, but just hop back on the tube and you can get to Piazza De Spagna, where the spanish steps are, the piazza Navona and the Trevi fountain, really easily.
The piazza de spagna is amazing at nighttime as their is loads of swanky bars, cute restaurants and bistros all around it. and at night time loads of people just sit on the spanish steps drinking, singing and chatting. The shoppiong here is phenomenal too with shops including Dolce & Gabanna, Escada, Bvlgari, Missoni & Prada etc etc.
Have an amazing time, it's my favourite place in the world x
ps make sure you visit the trevi fountain at night, its stunning.

From Ciampino you have to take a bus (ATRAL) to Anagnina subway station (1,20 euros). From Anagnina take the subway A to Termini (direction Battistini), in Termini you get off and with the same ticket you take the subway B to Colosseo (direction Laurentina). The subway ticket costs 1,00 euros. You can't find cheaper. Don't take taxis, the airport is far from the centre and it costs a lot.
In the Colosseo zone there are lots of shops, bar and restaurants. But the typical shopping area is around Via del Corso: from Colosseo you take Via dei Fori Imperiali to Piazza Venezia, and from there Via del Corso, a long and narrow street where you will find a lot of intersting places.
The most famous "night districts" are two: Trastevere and Campo dei Fiori. To Trastevere you can walk: you go to Piazza Venezia, from there Via del teatro di Marcello to Piazza Bocca della Verità, you cross the Tiber and you are in the quarter. To Campo dei Fiori you go also to Piazza Venezia, from there Via Plebiscito and Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Walking is the best way to see Rome: anything you will see may be surprising.
