I would say that Gardaland is one of the best options. It is not in Piedmont or Lombardy though.

A great place to stay and great for kids is shttp://www.bimboinviaggio.com/it/italia/pragelato-village-resort.asp . It is right up in the mountains, great for kids and wonderful for the parents to.

If you visit my site http://www.my-italy-piedmont-marche-and-more.com/piedmont-tour-or-wine.html you will find the third place down on the page - headed Cuneo/Alba is fantastic. I often stay here with my family as it is great to live a more simple, rural lifestyle for a short while, especially if you live in a city , which I do, and want to let your children experience a more wholesome lifestyle for a short while. My son of four loves the place. Especially the petting zoo and the quad bikes

Not quite in the areas that you are staying in, but not far from Piedmont is the city of Genova which is a great place for kids!! We were just there with my 2-year-old and he loved it.

They have a very well-known Aquarium. Here's a link to their site, which is also in English. http://www.acquario.ge.it/index.asp

They also have something called Citta' dei Bambini, which is like a Children's museum with lots of things to discover, touch, etc. We didn't get to go because we were there on their closing day (Monday) but plan to return to do this and the aquarium. The site is only in Italian but here is a link:
http://www.cittadeibambini.net/

The waterfront is very set up to play with kids, there's a great play ground, a private ship to explore and they have trains that take you on tours of the port and city. Our son even got a kick out of walking through all the narrow streets of the old city.

Go and have fun!
