My daughter and I went to Rome in March-April '07 to celebrate her 18th birthday. We reserved a room at the Hotel Italia upon recommendations from the TravelAdvisor.com website. We had a wonderful hotel experience and as you can see from the link below, it is really close to the Termini yet a few blocks away, tiny side street off Via Nationale, so that the noisy main streets dont keep you from sleeping. The staff speaks english and were very friendly, even providing street maps and excellent suggestions for several nice restaurants in the area.

How cheap

This is just 2 blocks from the Termini station. I stayed there just 2 weeks ago. Really nice. http://www.hotelcolumbia.com/

Not super cheap, but not overpriced either. A bargain, all in all.

hi! i'm from milan and i've just came back from rome....
i stayed in a b&b called "crazy holiday"....it was in piazza san giovanni in laterano, in the historical centre....next to the colosseum, a bit far from "fontana di trevi" or "piazza di spagna" but there were buses and subway so that you could reach each place you wanted in a few minutes.
DAmiano, the owner, was very friendly and spoke english, french and spanish. the place was clean and tidy. we had our own bathroom and breakfast was included. you could also cook if u wanted to.
it was very cheap: a room for 4 people costs 130€ a night.....

I found a great hotel!! We are staying there on our honeymoon. CineMusic Hotel. I found them through priceline-europe. Also when I emailed them I got a rate of 130 euro/night (and a bottle of champange) the same that was on priceline-europe, the price on the website was 175 euro. They are a brand new hotel so they have a special promotional rate. There is also a jacuzzi on the roof, looking forward to that after walking around in rome all day. They have a few reviews all of which are great. Check out tripadvisor and venere for reviews.
