B&B Bologna was an awesome place. It's just a few subway stops from the main train station, and is right by bus lines too. The owners are extremely friendly & have tons of tips on great places to eat, the best buses to use to get around, and anything else you need to know. You can also use Venere.com to look up hotels by price, and by neighborhood. I use it to find hotels every time for vacations and have never been burned!

You can stay in the Termini area which is the Central station area; there you'll find the cheapest B&Bs in rome. On this website you can find a lot of budget accommodations in Rome: http://en.reserver.it/

Hi - Last Jan (08) my family and I stayed in a B&B in Rome, it was
€ 90 per room approx 5 minutes walk from the main Terminus Bus / Train
Booked through Italialodging.com - it was called the "BUONARROTI HOME Bed and Breakfast"
Old style house, 3 levels B&B on the top
Good idea to go on the tour buses (hop on hop off) all day or 2 day ticket, many companies selling tours.
Very wet when we went but still fun, be careful of food prices, very expensive.

As a cheaper alternative me and my girlfreind stayed in this hostel/campsite when we were in Rome last May, It is pretty inexpensve and they do some nice cabins in quiet grounds, there is also a pool which was nice and quiet!

It was a 5 minute walk to the train station with a further 5/10 minute train journey which ran every 15 mins and cost next to nothing, taking you right into the centre of Rome.
