Hi! I was born in Turin, and I still live here: news about Turin? It's a beautiful old-fashioned city (but if you want to have fun, sure, you'll find it); pretty cold in winter, it represents the symbol of Italian baroque style; then you have the magnificent Egyptian museum, lots of monuments, but it's an alive city, not living in the past; now they're building the underground, so it's quite easy to find traffic jams, but it's a problem you can easily overcome. so....
It has been the first Italian capital in XIX century, and it was founded on a roman champ (Augusta Taurinorum): the original squared of streets (very squared), is still conserved.
It's a beautiful place to live in!

I lived in Turin for 4 years. Torino is a beautiful city with grand architecture and some excellent museums. It is well situated with easy access to the mountains and the coast. The night life can be good, but in the end Turin is relatively small (1 MM inhabitants) so be prepared to keep bumping into the same people over and over again (especially in bars and clubs). The scary thing for me was when I started recognizing people on the streets (I had moved there from London). If you are living there as a single person with no family, Sundays are sad lonely days as Italians tend to dedicate Sunday to their family. It's a good day to clean house and watch telly.

Crime and intravenous drug use are pretty bad (as in any other Italian city) and the parks are definitely off limits at night (but then again they are anywhere else in the world). Housing is relatievly expensive and hard to find but I would definitely recommend staying in the best neighborhood you can find. Crocetta is nice (as long as you don't mind the transexual prostitutes; they will leave you alone, if you do). I lived a bit further north near Palazzo Lancia and that neighborhood was nice but not as central.

I think you are going to enjoy Turin.

I lived in Turin some years ago. I loved it, even if the weather is cold and it's not a very "funny" city.
Turin is charming and full of history.

PROS
- Elegant city center
- Big city but not as expensive as Milan
- Great region for food (Slow Food, wines, truffles, etc.)
- Close to other countries
- Important city for contemporary art
- Enough restaurants, bars and nightclubs (discos) to keep you occupied for a few years
- Good public transport

CONS
- Like any Italian city, bureaucracy and red tape
- Cold winters and very hot summers
- Tense racial relationships between Italians and immigrants
- One-industry economy (automotive)
