Are advance reservations for museum tickets in italy worth the cost?

i'm going to italy in late sept and am wondering if it's worth the extra $$ to use a service to reserve tickets at museums (ie., the Uffizi in Florence, the Galleria Borghese in Rome). just how bad are the waiting lines at that time of year?

Actually, Borghese reservations are mandatory. They are easy to make online, and they don't charge you until you get there, so no loss if you decide not to go. This is their website http://www.galleriaborghese.it/borghese/en/einfo.htm

Also, in addition to Uffizi, I recommend you make reservation at the Academia to see David, if you are interested. You can always make reservations, and then go to the museum and if see there is no line, you don't have to use your reserved tickets, they don't charge you in advance. You can call Florence directly to make reservations for both museums together. To call from US and get an English operator, call 011- 39- 055-294-883 8:30-18:30 M-F and 8:30-12:00 Sat. Florence time.

Also, if you would like Vatican museum while in Rome, definitely make reservations there, the lines are huge.
Hope this helps.

If you want to be sure to visit the uffizi is better to reserve your tickets.

For galleria borghese you can avoid the reservation without any problem for the line.

Yes, you probably won't get in the Uffizi at all without them...may not need them for Borghese -- Everyone going to Florence is trying to go to the Uffizi -- in Rome there are hundreds of other places to go.

It's definitely worth to book in advance to visit Uffizi in Florence (the queue is really really long), the same for the Ultima Cena (alias Il Cenacolo) by Leonardo da Vinci. I can't help you about the Galleria Borghese because I don't know it. Have a nice stay in Italy

if you dont get your tickets for the Uffizi ahead of time you will not get in and it doesnt matter when you go. There is always a line of people trying to get in there everytime I have gone there and most stand in line all day and still do not get in. Because they only allow so many in at a time and in one day. I dont know about the Borghese i've never been there. I use www.selectitaly.com to get my tickets for the uffizi.
