Yes, the prices in Italy for new clothing (current season) is generally slightly cheaper than US prices - this is true for current season, full-priced retail luxury goods. This is because you're not paying the import tax on these items. Also, if you buy luxury goods in Italy, you can ask for the VAT back when you return to the U.S., if you hold an American passport. |

I don't know what the situation is like now, but 7 years ago designer clothing in Italy was outrageously high, higher than in USA. Perhaps you can now understand why reasonably priced knockoffs are in such great demand. I live in the Philippines, and enjoy the tons of Chinese "Italian" designer goods. :-) |

According to my friend who is Italian (living in Torino) designer clothing is much more expensive in Italy than in the U.S....she has been to New York and she noticed the prices. She said that things like jeans are much cheaper here. |

Generally a bit cheaper, since you're not paying for the importation. |

Eh...not really! Don't buy the fakes off the street.
I found AWESOME clothes in the used clothes stores. Amazing coats, jeans and shoes. Give those a try too. |
