don't listen to the others.
yeah, they are still okay to be worn, but the simple ones only - no crazy embellishments. flats and heels are very popular. heels should be worn to dinner.
here are some sugesstions:
it is very hot here in the summer so bring a lot of light, flowy clothing. Bring sweaters though because it can cool at night depending on where you are. i recommend knee-length skirts [hoochie jean skirts/shorts are not appropriate for visiting churches and also look ridiculous; also wear a shirt that covers your shoulders or bring a wrap to wear for churches, otherwise you will not be let in], dark jeans, sun dresses, polo shirts, sunglasses [italians ALWAYS wear sunglasses], dressier tops, a nice bag and heels. italians look good even when going to the grocery store.
at night, step it up a notch. silk blouses and dresses are most popular, almost always worn with heels - flip flops are rare. accessories [gold and silver; no chunky tacky pieces] are also very popular. |

Yes but you also have to wear the dress and no undies. Also you need to walk around with a lion on a leash just in case you come across some christians. So avoid the vatican. |
