Yes and yes. Italian men are forward in a way that I have never imagined, but it's not bad, really. They will complement you outrageously, and even follow you, but if you firmly state that you are not interested, they will respect that. They are not crude or obscene when they hit on you, like guys in the States. They will complement your eyes and hair, but not your rear end. If it gets annoying, just don't wear make-up and heels. They flirt with women who look (to them) like they want to be hit on. |

I live in Italy, and uhm my answer would be NO. I wish they were though... I mean, you'll find some romantic flirtatious guy, especially young people in the south, as in the north people tend to be more closed...but it's not like it's depicted in movies etc. just a funny myth. also, we are not all mafiosi, and women are not hairy, and we don't all make pizza :-) |

YES THEY ARE.
Their mentality is different, they believe a woman should be told straight forward about her beauty.
At first it sounds a little thick, but if you speak the language you learn to understand that italians are italians. They love their food, their families, and every woman that walks right by them.Enjoy your trip,it is beautiful. |

It depends on when you go... overall I would say yes, but even more so from Rome down south. I lived in Italy for a year, it's a pretty macho society. By the same token women are expected to play hard to get - the slightest reciprication is taken as encouragement, especially if you are foreign.
However it's all in good fun if you can take it in that spirit and Italian men will back off quickly if you make it very clear (no mixed messages) that you are not interested. |

They are very direct-which I believe is a good thing-no guessing games-just be direct back and all will be fine. |

OMG they are. The more south you go, the more aggressive they get. I was in Naples back in Oct, and just walking along the water towards one of the castles (taking pics) and two guys on their vespa came up to me and asked me to photograph them and proceeded to hit on me and asked me to join them on a tour on their vespa. I politely declined and then was left with two wet spots on my face from them kissing me, lol!
Top that off with the "Ciao Bella's" I received during my 3 weeks in Italy. Its kind of nice at first, then by the 3rd day, it becomes annoying and you just wish they would leave you alone.
Very straight forward men, and they have wandering eyes, lol
It gets a little uncomfortable after awhile. |

Men are men even in Italy. I think you will find flirtacious men in Italy, to be sure, but a comment can be ignored or just acknowledged with a pleasant smile, as you walk away. Don't go hopping on a Vespa with a stranger! You woudn't do that here at home. Just enjoy the compliments , consider your surroundings, and don't take it so seriously. No one ever flirted with anyone they didn't find attractive, after all. A handsome Italian man may flirt with me anytime. Gracie |

YES very much so. It is cute when you are single but when you are escorted by your significant other and they continue flirting you it gets uncomfortable for both of you. |
