surprisingly there really are quite a few. If you are willing to look around a little and check out the various menus always posted in the windows of the restaurants, you can find some inexpensive pasta and pizza dishes.

Sure there is..Lots of the vendors on all of the alley ways sell, Pizza, Calzones and Sandwiches....All very reasonable...Although soda will cost you a bundle....

Absolutely, just don't go anywhere in the main squares or tourist areas. There are numerous backstreets behind St Mark's Basilica filled with cheaper trattorias plus up around the train station. It's just about getting away from the tourist traps. Make sure you tried Seppie al nero - squid ink.

I am going to need a lot more detail than that... I live in Italy though.

If you want just cheap go to some fast food restaurant. If you want cheap and authentic you should try to get lost somewhere outside tourist areas (north of san Marco, or on the "wrong" side of Canal Grande), there you can get reasonable prices and good food.

Stay away from Piazza San Marco, choose unassuming places that don't have a menu in English, know some Italian and you don't have to tip :) but you can if you really want (I'm Italian by the way)
