Are there any overweight girls in Italy?

I'm not talking about the mamas or the nonas ok? Mothers and grandmothers excluded. I was just wondering because everytime I see an Italian picture or movie, everyone seems to be so thin. Are there any overweight girls there? What do they do about their clothing? Sizes in Italy seem so small.
Additional Details
Okay, please tell me if you actually been to Italy and seen it for yourself.

I lived in Italy for 5 years and I can tell you that there are very few fat people in Italy: girls, boys, or adults. I think this is because (1) people walk... A LOT. Most people live in the cities, and walk to shopping, etc. (2) people rarely eat between meals and (3) the Mediterranean diet is low in fat and high in fresh produce.

K
Guy, where the hell do you live?

I know many people have a misconception of Italy, but I didn't think that much!
It's not your fault. I know that in Italian movies there are usually gorgeous and thin women. They wouldn't choose fat ones!
The answer is YES. There are overweight girls in Italy. Not much, but some of them are REALLY REALLY FAT!
Italians in general (not everyone) don't practice as much sport as in other countries, and the food is so good that they continue to eat. Again, not everyone!

Clothing...Uhm. Are you talking about movies again? Because the actresses they choose are usually thin, that's why their size is small. You can find any kind of size in Italy. There are normal sizes (like American S, M, L.....) and sizes for fat people who are as large as big balls.
Yeah, it is harder to find sizes that are huge, but you can find them if you search...

But...what is a thin or fat girl according to you? Are you American? Maybe you see lots of fat girl there, and you think that in Italy girls are all beautiful and thin. Well, according to the statistics, obesity is higher in US than Italy. But there are fat people in Italy, too.

Hope I have clarified the situation to you.

There's over weight girls in any part of the world. Usually in pictures and movies they put the best looking people on it. I live in southern california and people think there's no fat girls over here. Trust me there's plenty.

Well, tourists in Italy are like freaking hippos in their Bermuda shorts. Italians eat a lot, but they eat all the right foods, so the weight they gain is good weight. Also, most people walk to places instead of driving so they loose weight. It is quite possible for Italian women to be fat, but not like huge fat, you know? it's hard to explain.

Yes, there are overweight girls, although not as many and not as big as in the US. We tend to be appearance obsessed, so we go on a diet as soon as we have a few kilos too much...However, there still are women overweight, and I'm observing that things are getting worse with the new generations: now you see overweight children and teenagers as well. Probably because we don't exercise or walk as much as we used to: it used to be than ANY child would practice at least a sport (usually soccer for the boys, volleyball or gymnastics for the girls), but now many children just stay home and play with videogames...
In stores you will only find small sizes, for an american standard: it's the same for men's stores as well. There are specialised stores for larger sizes, even very fashionable ones, such as Marina Rinaldi.

When I lived in Italy I never saw a fat person under 40. Italians exercise a lot and look after themselves. They might eat a lot of pasta but they also eat a lot of fresh vegetables and fish.

Never, ever allow what you see in the media - TV, posters, movies, whjatever - to shape your beliefs about what another place is like. Too many people hold up what they see in media as an ideal. It isn't. It is unrealistic.

My first experience in Italy about 30 years ago: they were thin and pretty when they were young. They seemed to gain quite a bit when older!
Experience from last year: overall there were not that many fat ones. In Milan, you will see a lots of VERY THIN ones walking in the street. I guess there were a lot of models.

maroc
well, i am italian and a lot of americans that i meet say that they are amazed because everybody seems thin or in shape here (but also in the rest of europe). the fact is that we surely have less overweight people than in the states, i think its because junk food is still not so popular. but we do have some overweight people, just not as much as you, and maybe they dont get their way to movies, or maybe some people that we consider fat and appear in italian movies just look normal to you...
ah! and for clothes: there are shops for large sizes... but also large sizes in normal shops - maybe for american tourists! :P

♥sweetie♥
no! we are all thin and beautiful! for the world to see!
