1. Catacombs of Priscilla. Out of the way, uncrowded, unlike the other catacombs. Guided tour. Brings the reality of early Christianity alive. Trust me, you will never see church history the same.
2. Palatine Hill, with Emperor's Palace, etc. Stand where the Caeser stood.
3. The Coloseum. Use a Roma Pass or join a guided tour at the entrance to skip the nightmare ticket lines.
4, St, Peter's Bascilica and the Vatican Museum, which includes the Sistine chapel, Allow at least half a day. Join a guided tour to save time. Guides have access to shortcut routes. No bare legs or shoulders on Church property; they WILL turn you away at the door.
5. Roman Forum and surrounding sights. Connect with some of the most important history of Wesern culture in a real way.
EXTRA: Take a daytrip to Pompei. I'd skip 2 or 3 of the above to make it possible.
