bologna is a nice city ,there are many students because of the famous university. there is a gig railway station and you can go anywhere from bologna. there are nice shops, places to visit, but it's not near france. you should get a map and check. bologna is 2 hours from milan and 1 from florence by train. you can also reach venice by train, it's not far, but venice is VERY expensive!

Very outgoing city, lots of fun and lots of young students, nightlife, all is great , very friendly people, lots of laughter all smiles, good food and vine!!!, has great transports with train busses and flights

i live near bologna and i can say that is a wonderfull city! there are so many places to go and people is really polite!!and guys are funny!i think you'll be good here!! P.S. bologna is absolutely far from france really!

If Venice were Honolulu then Bologne would be Dallas.

Italy has a great train system. In most cases you can just go to the train station and as long as you are leaving a large city (like Bologne) and going to a large city (like Venice, Rome, Milan, etc.) you should be able to get a train. Buying your tickets in advance is a good idea though.

Balogne isn't close to France. It will be a rather long train ride to France. The closest area is the French Riviera (Nice, Cannes, Monaco (not actually France)). Or you can go through the Alps to Lyon. It's over 500 miles (800 km) to Paris. It' will take most of the day to travel and will cost about 100 euros each way.

Bologna open minded people, young,a real city.
Venice it's a postcard and a museum,if you are a little aged you will like it.Bologna has the most ancient university of the world,Umberto Eco teaches there. Bologna is near Riviera Romagnola you will enjoy clubbing in Rimini and Riccione.
It's also with Milan the best place where you can create music, lot of artists and musicians.Bologna has airport if you wanna fly to France.
Venice and Bologna are anyway mid size cities you can live there easily and have friends ,I'm sure you will !

Bologne is situaded in the Padan plain, there is no sea and there is much humidity. However there are many historical sites. It's known as a university city because there is an ancient atheneum.
From Bologna to Venice there are about 2 hours by train, and i think 20 euros for the bill. Bologna is not so near to france, there are about 7 hous by car or train. Genoa is nearer to France.
I think you have enjoyed more Venice.
Anyway, have a nice stay!
