I have never been in Bolzano, but I think the main thing to know is that most people in Bolzano speak German instead of Italian. They know Italian but they usually speak German, and you will find most writings in German.
Trentino is different: the region Trentino-Alto Adige is divided into Trentino, the southern zone, where Italian is spoken, and Alto Adige, where most people speak German. Trento is the main city of Trentino, Bolzano of Alto Adige.
Funny that nobody has said it as yet.

We have a condo there... in the trentino area, in Giustino. It's kind of a madhouse when it snows because it's a famous ski area. As long as you make arrangements BEFORE the ski crowd gets there you should be fine. If you are Roman Catholic, call the church and tell them you need to rent a condo for a while, and have the parish look to the congregation to rent a place to you. If you are not catholic, keep in mind this place is ultra catholic and they love the pope. I would start with the church that you are affiliated with, and rent from one of their members rather than a real estate agency who will scam you. There are lots of scams in Italy.. Also, ask the company he is going to join if they have a department that does home searches for free. When I moved to Detroit they did this for me. When my friends left Detroit, their company purchased their old home to make it easier on them. Many companies have in-house departments that help employees come or go.
