Best Places to eat near the Colloseum in Rome?

Hi! I'm originally from Rome and to have a good taste of the authentic good Italian cousine you MUST AVOID all the restaurants around the Coliseum, as they are pretty much all tourist rip offs.
Walk instead towards piazza Venezia and from there towards Trastevere (it shouldn't take longer than 20 minutes by feet, or you can catch a bus from the Colosseo). Any place there is highly reccomended.
Here's the link to give you an idea of where it is:

Nowhere. There is nowhere good to eat near any of the tourist spots. But Rome is small so just walk across the River to Trestavere and have a better meal down one of the allies. I am not sure if this is a law in Italy, but most restaurants have the menu posted outside somewhere so you can see in advance. Also, I don't know if this is a law either, but if you read the fine print on the menu it will state if the food is frozen. Stay away from those places. Also stay away from anywhere that has a tourist menu.

OMG.. DO NOT EAT BY THE COLLOSEUm... save your euros and stomach... all restaurants around there are espensive and they give you bad stuff... better take the metro and go somewhere else.. check out Prati neighboorhood near vatican?

I can help you, suggesting to visit the Site www.SleepInRome.it

You can find many apartments at very convenient price, also in the centre of Rome et near the Colosseo.

Hoping that I will be useful to you,

and sorry for my English.

ciao

Daniela

You're generally better off getting away from the immediate area of a tourist attractions. You don't have to go far though. Near the Colosseum there are some good places on Via Capo d'Africa. Magna Roma is interesting; it features recipes that are supposed to be from ancient Rome. http://www.ancientworlds.net/aw/Post/30609

I particularly like Le Naumachie http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/restaurants/review.asp?n=le+naumachie&s=colosseo

Although this restaurant is not near the colloseum, but near the Vatican museum it is well worth the trip.

Go to Dino and Tony's Hosteria on via Leone IV 60, it is a small establishment where you are treated like one of the family. The food is superb, but they don't speak English, which was part of the experience. Have suggested it to many friends and everyone loved it. One person went there every evening for 5 nights.

Enjoy

The worst restaurants in rome are still 100 time better then the garbage we eat here in the states...so dont worry...anywhere will be an upgrade...lol

I never went to Rome, but I think that around the colosseum there are a lot of restourants and pizzerie
