Best cell phone coverage in Italy?

I will be studying abroad in Italy for a semester and I want to get a prepaid cell phone there (AT&T has too high of rates for international roaming). Can anyone tell me about some of the best cell phone providers in Italy? I want to have good coverage while I'm there. (I will be in Rome for most of the time)

Go for Vodafone or Tim - either one guarantees good coverage. There is roaming between the providers, not like in the US, this means that you will pickup the signal of either one and will not lose the connection nor spend more. Just make sure you get a deal which is most convenient for you.

The best coverage is given by TIM (www.tim.it), Vodafone (www.vodafone.it) and Wind (www.wind.it)
They are active in almost every corner of the country and have very similar prices and performances.

I would reccommend TIM, as I have also tried "3" and Vodafone, but I believe that TIM is the best.

Ciao from Italy

I have T-Mobile here in U.S.A. but when I travel every year for the summer to Italy, have Tim service(for which I bought a new and cheap phone 3 years ago). You might as well, get yourself another phone over there since you will be studying abroad ! By the way, good luck !!
