Best cities in Italy? ?

Im going abroad next year and was looking at Italy. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what city would be the best one to go to.
I've heard Florence is full of Americans, which is fine but I would rather go somewhere else.
Anything you can tell me will be helpful!! Thank you!

I suggest you visit Rome, the most beautiful and impressive city in the whole world.
An other must is Venice, a real masterpiece of architecture and art, having been built on hundreds of small islands in the center of the lagoon.
Florence is another must, it's the city of culture, where Renaissance was actually born.
I would also suggest Pisa, Sienna, Bologna, Padova, and of course Ravenna, with its famous Byzantine mosaics.

first of all the eternal city Rome..Then i suggest you Venice and Florence, Siena, Bologna, Ferrara, Milano and Naples because a part the fact that there is entertainmente, there is also Pompey the ancient city

So, you can go in sicily and you can try, taormina, catania, palermo(the mafia not exist) siracusa. Ps:I'm italian men!!!

For my wife and I, the 2 best cities in Italy are Florence and Rome. We could have chosen to stay anywhere in Italy and we chose Rome, simply because it has so much to offer.
(We were very keen about Florence too, but I'm involved with music, Rome had the contacts and opportunities, and that was the deal breaker.)

Rome is very exciting, there is always something happening. It has by far the most tourist attractions. When you wander amongst that much history it's a city that can make you feel very small - not a bad thing sometimes.
This site http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com is a good tourist guide to Rome and has lots for the potential traveler.
Enjoy.

It depends on what you like to do (and see) ^^
The most touristic cities in Italy are Rome, Neaples, Florence and Venice. But there are so many other beautiful places that I can't tell you all!
I like very much sicily, but maybe is better to go there on summer. Also Tuscany and Umbria are very nice!

Although Venice is exactly what you expect (STUNNING!) I was more surprised with Florence, that is truly a Museum-City! Incredibly beautiful! I can't describe it with words! You have to visit it!

I lived in and love Sicily. Hang out in Taormina, or visit ruins in Taormina. LOL Small place, but it's great! Topless beach there.

The two most important cities in Italy are Rome and Florence. If you had to decide between the two I would make the choice of art (Florence) vs. history (Rome) with a tie going to Rome.

Rome is also full of Americans.

well, yes, Rome is amazing and blablabla...I'm Italian, and I really don't like Rome too much...i prefer, naturally, my city MILAN! It's a beautiful city that the most of the people don't know...Milan has the culture (Sforza's Castle, the Dome, Navigli, the Last Supper ...) and the fashion (Milan with NY, Paris and London is the capital of the shopping...) and other...
after Milan, i think you should go to Venice, Florence, Bologna, Bergamo, Verona (the city of Romeo and Juliet) and, at last, Rome...
i hope i'd be helpful!!
have a nice journey!

ciao
p.s. sorry for my english...
