Best hotel pick in Florence?

There are tons of great hotels in Florence -- all which come at a price, unfortunately. You say hotel quality and location are most important to you...but those things can be relative as well. For example, do you want to wake up right in the middle of town and be steps away from all the sites (wonderfully convenient, but could mean it'll be a little noisy) or would you like to be in the surrounding hills in a villa turned hotel set in a lovely garden with stunning views (gorgeous, but you'll spend some time getting around every day).

Here is a short list of what I would say are some of my favorite hotels in Florence that you won't find on every website or list out there (I'll confess that I tend to like smaller properties that are a little bit more personal; but not always)

Among those that you list, I'd say the one I know and like is Hotel Albergotto. Small rooms but great location. Another great 5-star is the Hotel Savoy -- location can't be beat as far as convenience.

We stayed at the hilton. They have a shuttle bus to take you to the city. They also have the best breakfast that I've eaten during my trip in to Italy. It's a buffet & they have pretty much everything that I've had at all the other hotels plus,more. The room is pretty cool too. There a remote that controls the blinds and tv. You can set an alarm on the tv that you can hear throughout the room, The shower is very complex and the bathroom is see-through which was kind of weird because my friend and I are not lovers. But, other than that, we really liked it. They also have good toilitries (from crabtree & evelen)

A 17th century building right in the middle of the city, just a 10-minute walk from the train station. Continue eastward for another 10 minutes to the Duomo. The river Arno is about 15 minutes souhwest. and the Mercato Centrale (Central market), 10 minutes northeast. Friendly front desk staff are always ready to help. Room rates vary depending on the season. <*-*>

I am just back from a weekend in Florence staying at the Cavour. For location it's excellent, we walked everywhere from there. It's minutes from the Duomo, the Ufizzi, and lots of interesting shops, bars and restaurants, well, just about everything really. Don't discount the noise factor though, ask for a courtyard room, or from 5am onwards you will find it extremely noisy. You could try earplugs I suppose, but it's really considerable. Our remedy was plenty of Chianti the evening before! Don't miss the roof terrace for breakfast, so many people didn't seem to realise it was there - take your choice from the buffet and go up the stairs - fantastic! Our room, 321 only had a shower, but we really didn't have time to linger in a bath, we had so much to see. Another factor was the twin beds, if you like to cuddle, it's impossible, even pushing them together.

the Residenza dei Pucci is about one block from the Duomo, right smack in the middle of town and a delightful place to stay. The breakfast is nothing great, but that is typical of Italy in general. Rooms are furnished Tuscan-style and beautiful. I did not need to take a taxi the entire time I was in the city, other than for a day trip to Fiesole (which is fabulous, and a nice break from the much warmer Florence). I think the room was around 175 euro per night (ballpark guess, it was in April 07) per night, but well worth the price.

Personally, I like Montebello Splendid...the decor is more hip and price is not too shocking.
