I think I know what you mean by not doing the tourists things...may be you wont be going into museums etc...The end of November northern Italy it's a bit of a lucky dip as fog could bring your break to a false start..try to avoid airports like milan malpensa, brescia verona, bologna, parma,turin...It happen to me before to land somewhere else cos of the fog!!! I'm Italian as you can probably gather by my name and you can definetly go in a touristic city without doing the tourist things but the temptetion would be there anyway. I'd say lake Garda it's a fantastic place in the summer absolutely stunning in the winter!!! Sirmione in the winter its not so expensive or even Desenzano del Garda. From these places if you feel like it you are 30 mins away by train from Verona 1h30min from Venice 1.30min from Milan you could also by boat travel to the different resorts around the lake. For istance Bardolino where they make stunning wine and its not far from the foothills of the Dolomites a scenery you will never forget for its dramatic beauty. Sirmione,if you're not staying there, its a nice peninsula where to spend a nice day...anyway if you do decide to take my suggestion fly if you can to Milan Bergamo with Ryanair avoid the airport i told you about for instance brescia that time of the year its got really cheap flights but chances are you could land in Treviso 2h30min away on the bus. whan you land in bergamo bus for milan then train into Desenzano del Garda..generally trains to venice stop in Desenzano if not it might be worth changing in Brescia. http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html this link its for train times and fares prices...one little bit of advice if you use trains in Italy stamp your tickets in the yellow machines you see in train station, not doing so would result into a fine being issued to you by the ticket controller. One last thing no one seems to ever mention this one thing whatever you buy in Italy always ask for a receipt and then carry it with you. That's becouse the receipt its the proof that vat has been paid if the Italian Inland Revenue stops you outside a shop where you bought goods and ask for a receipt they could fine you it did happen to my wife in Milan. please don't be put off by these things, different country different laws, I believe these things should be included in the info when you book holidays. Ciao hope it was help for you. |

i'm italian. italy is touristy, so it's hard not to do touristy stuff :)
in the end of november in north begins to get cold, in south generally is still quite "warm", if you are lucky, you could go to the sea.
i think that unmissingble (will be this the correct word?) cities are, rome, naples, florence, venice and milan. in the end of november maybe you could find not much tourists |

If you won't be doing touristy stuff, you should go to Garda Lake (warm in autumn, too). You can go to Scoobit.com, the hotel search engine at http://www.scoobit.com Switch the language to English, then fill the form with city name (Garda) you can leave the address field blank. Then click on "Search hotel". I went to Hotel Continental with my family, nice and clean place, I guess you're gonna love it, but feel free to choose the hotel that best fits your needs. Scoobit.com is a safe website I've used many times so far, and you can book on line.
Garda Lake is the largest Italian lake, situated at the foot of the Alps, in a beautiful area of southern Europe. At only 30 Km from Verona, 100 Km from Milan and 130 Km from Venice it is well placed for road, rail and air connections.
Have a wonderful time in Italy. |

In November the north can be quite cold and wet. I suggest you might look at the south. My personal favorite is Puglia http://www.viaggiareinpuglia.it/hp/en . It is the heel of Italy. On the link to the official tourist site they give you all sort of travel and accommodation info. Hope this helps... |
