Best time to visit Rome?

I anted to take my mother who is a school teacher to Rome. It is safe to assume the summer time is too crowded so I wanted to know what the weather is like in early April and in mid to late December.

In Italy we say that the best time to see Rome is October and call it "Roman October" ("ottobrata romana", which was the name of a medieval festival in Rome): a lukewarm and pleasant weather, out of the summer crowd, with people returning to the normal rythm of life and you can still find a lot of interesting events all over the city

April-May-June or September-October are the best times ever.
Mid to late Dec could be cold and/or rainy.
Early April is nice: it is beginning of spring and not too crowded.
Enjoy!!!

Each time is perfect to visit Rome!!!!!! :°D
I'm italian and I can say that in Rome the weather is often very sunny. In summer and spring temperatures are always very warm (and usually hot). But you can see also any web site with weather forecasts. Be provident it's better. Bye.

It depends how hot you like it personally my favourite time is around September, October time. Flights are cheaper and it's not as busy and a nice comfortable temperature. I was there for 3 weeks and it only rained twice, it can get a little chilly around the Tiber river but only late evening......Hope this helps....

I love the atmosphere in Rome in December - with the Christmas markets it can be really lovely. The sites aren't as crowded as in the summer. I've been a couple of years in winter and it hasn't been cold or wet. However, even if it is cold/rainy when you go, it's probably more pleasant than having kids fainting all over the place from dehydration and overcrowding, as happens in high summer!

April is also lovely and very mild, but if you want to avoid the worst of the crowds, avoid Easter! (Loads of folk come to celebrate Easter with the Pope.)

In Rome, you really can't avoid there being lots of tourists; the trick is to plan carefully - book the main attractions in advance for weekdays, and hang out in the Borghese park on Saturday. Lunchtime is quieter (say 1pm - 3pm) as Italians stay at home then, so choose this time to visit sites rather than an early morning visit (assuming the site doesn't also shut for a siesta!).
