I've lived about an hour from Bologna for the past nine years. It's an interesting city with excellent connections by train and air. It's about two hours to Venice on the regional trains (cost 8.75 euro 2nd class) or about 1.5 hours by the faster Eurostar trains (cost 22.80 euro 2nd class at the standard fare or 18.20 euro at the discounted Amica fare). You can check specific train schedules and prices here: http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=ad1ce14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080a3e90aRCRD

One advantage of Bologna is that it's only an hour from Florence on the regional trains (5.10 euro) or a little more than 1.5 hours on the faster trains. Florence is another great place to visit with lots of historic buildings and spectacular art.

The old town in Bologna is relatively small, but nice. There are some interesting museums and lots of good food. There are several interesting festivals and trade shows over the course of the year.

Bologna isn't particularly close to France, but there's a night train to Paris that is a good way to go for a weekend. You leave Bologna at 10:22 at night, sleep on the train and arrive in Paris at 9:16 the next morning. The train stops in Dijon at 6:33, so that would be another easy trip. There's also a night train back from Paris. It's not to difficult to get to places on the south coast of France such as Menton, Eze, or Nice, but there are no direct trains. Minimum travel time is around 7 hours.

To your question about france , Venice and Bologna are similar distances from france , and both are very far away.

There are many beautiful places in Bologna , but you can't rely on pictures from the internet to tell you that. It will be all the more beautiful if you discover it for yourself.

Crogiolo dei Mondi
Bologna is not an ugly city, but Venice is more and more beautiful...

I advise you to visit San Luca:

It is on a hill, you can reach it thank to long flights of steps under arcades

I like Bologna especially for its food, for its culture ( it has one of the most ancient Universities in the world), for its arcades which cover every street and for the cordiality of its inhabitants ...

Have a good journey

First STOP CALLING BOLOGNA Bologne.
Its is a beautiful city NOT infested with too many tourist.
You can take the Eurostar to Venice and its the first stop its one hour and forty mins on the Eurostar 22 euros for an adult 2nd class.

Bologna is very nice and very relaxing.

If you can go on yahoo to ask about Bologna, then look at a map and see where France is. Besides you need to tell us what city u want to see in France for us to tell u how long your trip will be.

.Laura
...and if you are so interested in France WTF you want to go to Bologna then which is NOT near that!Choose Ventimiglia and stuck there take this advise
