if you're looking towards the north it would depend whether you want the heat or fresh air. if its the latter, try places around valle soana (unless you want a city such as torino, Udinese, Milano), grand paradiso, this is the region in the alps, the temperature is fresher as you go up the mountain, there are lots of small villages, such as ronco canavese, convento, bosco (look on autoroute), the beauty with these small villages is that both French and Italian is spoken. If you would prefer to stay with the heat, look at towns such as pont canavese (about 24km from the abovemention).

I have only been to a few places in Italy-- venice, rome, and florence plus a handful places in between. I did spend a day in one of the most amazing towns I could imagine. Montecatini, Italy is absolutely incredible. It is a small town in Tuscany. The main part of the town is beautiful and there are some good restaurants and hotels. The best part is the historic part of the town which is about a five?? mile train ride to the top of a mountain. The view was incredible. Out of every place i have visited I cannot think of a better place(except maybe Switzerland) to live. |

In the northern area one of the most beautiful areas is Como Lake, George clooney has bought a house there and the lake and environment are so rich and full of life.
If you want to stay away from Lombardia, the next best place is near Venice...
Also Liguria is quite nice, near Rapallo or Portofino. Also the eastern side is nice as well, Savona and other. Check out the pictures i attached. |
