Can I bring my King size mattress to Italy?

The size of the rooms really depends if you end up in an old house or a newer one, and if you will be living on base or off. The person who said about the sheets is correct. They use different sizes there.

For closets, don't worry. Go to the Ikea online site, and take a look at the closet systems they have. They are fantastic, I have a whole wall of them, and all my friends are jealous. Just go to an Ikea store when you get to Italy. Since space might be an issue, get a set that includes the drawers in the bottom and hanging on top like mine. You can also get beds from Ikea that will fit in the rooms.

You need to find out where you will be living in Vicenza. I've stayed in places with huge bedrooms, although most places have smaller bedrooms than in the U.S. It will just depend on where you will be living.

Closets are not as common in Italy. Most places do not have them. Italians typically have a large piece of furniture with two doors that is used to hang their clothes.

Don't look at these differences as a problem, but rather see them as a different way to live. Experiencing a new culture is exciting if you don't try to force your views as better, its just different.

Italy is a fantastic place and the people are very friendly and helpful. Enjoy the adventure!

Be prepared that might not be room for a king size bed to fit in the room and then what will you do? Also bring enough sheet sets because you probably won't be able to buy the right size sheets in Italy for an American king size bed.

Also be prepared that there probably won't be built-in closets. Europeans tend to use wardrobe units to put clothes in - not closets.

I also lived in Italy for five years and the master bedroom we had was huge, enough for any mattress, but like most, if not all, Italian homes there are no closets, at least Ive never seen any. They use an Armadio (dresser), a big dresser with two doors where they hang their clothes.

But you may be living on base where it's American style and they will have closets and it will be typical American apartments/housing. In any case if the military is paying for it then I would definitely bring it.
