HI. I'M AN ITALIAN GIRL...we use a website when we want to know something about trains
www.ferroviedellostato.it
You have to write the station where you leave , where you want to arrive and when.
it's very convenient and handy (and also in english language)
bye bye! |

Hello,
The website is www.trenitalia.it/en/index.html. You can check out the schedule to see that there are trains that leave just about every hour from Rome to Naples. The trip can be as short as 1.5 hours if you take the ultra high speed train. Just remember, the faster the train the more it costs. You can get fares as low as 12.40 for the slower trains while the ultra high speed train costs about 28.90. The difference in travel time is just over an hour.
The train will take you to the naples centrale station. This is also where you can catch the commuter train to Pompeii and Sorrento.
Day trips to Naples from Rome are very easy. Buy your train ticket at least 24 hours in advance to qualify for the amica fare, which is about 20% off. Take the earliest train you can, usually about 7 am. and plan to come back by 7 or 8 pm. This will give you plenty of time to see the main sights in Naples. I am supposing you want to see Pompeii and maybe Herculaneum or the museum. Once you get into the naples centrale station, in order to catch the commuter train you must go downstairs. This is where the commuter train is. If you are going to Herculaneum, Pompeii or the museum you must take the train headed to Sorrento. The Herculaneum stop will be first and is marked as Ercolano. Next will be the piazza cavour stop for the museum and the the pompeii scavi stop for pompeii. Herculaneum is a smaller site than Pompeii and can be seen in about 2 hours if you rush. The museum will also take a few hours. Pompeii is a site you could spend the entire day in and not see it all. You can sign up for a tour at both sites if you choose to do so.
A day trip to Naples is great but you will be tired when you get back to rome. Have a great time.

Yes you can. As other people have mentioned.
In addition, if you buy your train ticket from a machine at the train station, don't forget to have it stamped before boarding the train at a separate machine on the track, otherwise, they will charge you a 50 euro fine aboard the train if you have an unstamped ticket. I learned the hard way. |

Check www.trenitalia.com. There are definitely more than one daily train from Naples to Rome. It should take a couple of hours. |

Of course you can. Naples is not far from Rome and there are lots of trains. The cheapest (regionale) costs 10,50 euros. You'd better avoid the AV (alta velocità ) which is frightfully expensive. |

well, you can buy tickets at the station in naples, it's simple. there is a train every hour that will take you from naples to rome, "intercity" train and it costs about 13 euro...if i'm not wrong the train leaves at '20 every hour and it takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get to rome...
anyway....www.trenitalia.it |

The Italian Rail System is amongst the best in Europe. It's cheap, punctual and has trains that run pretty much everywhere from all major cities. You should have no problem at all getting a return to Rome from Naples for the day. |

Yep - I've done it before. Well I took a day trip from Rome to Naples. It was easy and fairly cheap if I remember correctly (it was 3 years ago so can't remember the exact price!)
I don't think you'll need to book it... we didn't anyway, we just turned up at the station and bought a ticket there and then. |
