Tuscany (yes Toscana) is an Italian region and Firenze is its chiefcity. It's in the centre of Italy facing Tyrrhenian Sea (mar Tirreno). It's a region considered a very open sky museum. Its history arrives from very far with the Etruscan people, then conquered by Roman Empire. The Etruscan civilisation has left to us many cities and archeological testimonies, in the human figure and culture too. We can say that, over the Roman kind, the Tuscan people is the pure Italian kind. Many are the important and very known cities and towns and villages belonging to this region: Lucca, Pisa (with the leaning tower, but not only), Arezzo, Grosseto, Massa, Livorno, Carrara (the city of the white marble open quarries) (cities). Prato, Castagneto Carducci, Torre del lago Puccini, Sansepolcro, Pistoia, Viareggio, Empoli, San Miniato, San Gimignano, Cortona, Volterra and many other (towns and little towns). Castellina in chianti, Pitigliano, Sovana, Vetulonia, Populonia, Capalbio, Chiusi, Monteriggioni, La Verna, Montecatini Terme, and a lot of other (villages and little villages). If you want to visit cities ond other sites the principal cultures are Etruscan, Roman and Renaissance (Leonardo da Vinci and Dante Alighieri and many other personalities were Toscan). Without forgetting Islands, the greater one is Elba Island. The landscape is the most beautiful and various. From the sea to the hills, to the forests and mountains. There are many regional parks and 'oasi' of the WWF. A land that produces one of the more good wine. And there, the food is really important and genuine, especially in the 'trattoria' (kind of 'cantina'). Very tasty are 'antipasti' (hors-d'oeuvres), 'primi piatti' (first courses): 'pastasciutta', 'linguine', 'lasagne', 'gnocchi', 'acqua cotta' (a tasty kind of soup). 'Secondi piatti': 'salami e prosciutti' (salami and hams), 'bruschetta', 'salsicce con fagioli', 'la Fiorentina' (a kind of Texan beefsteack), 'wild boar and hunt' with every kind of salades and fresh vegetables with their extravirgin oils and their vinegars. Or 'fishes': 'fritto misto, 'gamberi', 'gamberetti' 'cernia', 'sogliola', 'cozze alla marinara', 'zuppa di pesce', etc. 'Terzi piatti', 'cheeses' (in Italy we have more than 5000 kind of cheese) or desserts: 'fresh fruits', 'anguria', or 'gelato' every flavour. Don't forget: with fish only white wine, fresh and dry (with some cheeses too), all the other foods, red or black wine at room temperature (or 'rosato'). Good wines are, Chianti and Vernaccia. Some traditional sweet are 'cantuccini with vin santo' (a sweet with almond to soak in a sweet kind of wine). Over all a good of boiled black and strong coffe and 'un ammazzacaffè', (a killcoffee), normally a 'limoncello' (low alcoholic lemon liqueur) or a 'grappa' (Italian brandy).
Well, to you discover all that. many wishes and enjoy. Ciao.
