Can anybody recommend a cheap hotel in Venice for a weekend?

You could also try booking a hotel in Mestre and easily reach Venice within 10minutes by bus (or about 2 by train!).
I have a friend who stayed at the Hotel Delfino and he was really happy there. He payed around â‚¬50 per night and keep in mind it was during summer. There is a bus stop right accross the street from the hotel and buses to Venice pass every 10 minutes or so.

However, if you want to stay in Venice...I know there is a sort of guest house near Ponte dell'Accademia in Dorsoduro (like going towards the Zattere), it's run by nuns and is very well kept. There are double rooms and I think also family rooms, I'm sorry I don't have an address or website to give you but hope this helps anyway!

I'm not sure what hotels are in that exact location but there is a site that I think will be helpful for you. Go to Lido and go to the Hotel right by the dock they have great food.

Have you heard of the deal LastMinuteTravel.com is offering? You can book a trip anywhere in the world for the next couple of weeks for $1/night (including 5 star hotels). The only "catch" is that you have a fifteen minute time slot to do it and they don't tell you exactly when it is taking place. I'm leaving a link to a video that provides clues in relation to the time slot. From what I've gathered it seems to be taking place in the early morning. If you don't happen to book it for $1/night the site seems to have very reasonable hotel prices (better than Expedia, Priceline, and Orbitz)

It's an expensive city, so you may have to stay just outside the city to find something really affordable... Check out BookMe dot com. You can compare ALL the reputable travel sites from one location, and save tons of money. Good luck!

Venice is normally very expensive and even more so during Carnevale. I can't personally recommend any of them because I stay in a somewhat more expensive place right at Piazza San Marco every year, but I do book through the Venere site and have always been pleased.

There will be more cheaper places on the Lido island or in Mestre on the mainland.

I stayed here....I found it reasonably priced compared to other places. Something to consider, but I suspect the whole of Venice will be on high prices!
