I really thought that ALL children now needed their own passport, but on checking the Gov website, I found the first quote, which led me to check another, which provided the second quote. So ... it would seem that he is still OK to travel on your passport.
1. In the past babies and children could be included on a parent or guardian’s passport. The law has now changed and babies and children up to 16 who are not already on a parent’s or guardian's passport must have their own child passport if they are going to travel abroad.
2. In the UK, if your child is already included on your own or your partner's passport, he can carry on travelling abroad on that passport until it expires. However, if he's not included on someone else's passport, he'll need to get his own as, since October 1998, it's no longer been possible to include children on an adult's passport. |

Try www.ukpa.co.uk (assuming you are in the UK) |

he should be fine until he reaches 16, i only had my kids taken off mine when they got to 16, the rules changed after he's been added to yours, so that still stands, if in doubt still ask a travel agent or the UKPA |

As long as your passport is still valid, childen named on the passport are still ok to travel.
We went to Paris twice last year..January and October.
My 14yr old daughter was named on my passport which was due to expire in May last year.
She was ok to travel in January on my passport..but got her own for our return journey in October. |

well if he is now fourteen and he can be on your passport until he is sixteen, unless you are going for (lets do the maths) longer than two years, I think you will be o.k. |

I'm afraid he now needs his own passport to travel. All children (even babies!) have to have their own now.
Have a great time in Rome ! |

if you are from the UK then your son needs his own passport
gone are the days when children can be included on someone elses passport - everyone needs their own from birth now if you want to travel |
