Try checking out the website I've provided. You get "real people" opinions and ratings, tourist tips, and sometimes even guest pictures of the place you're considering.

Happy trails!

I haven't actually stayed in Prato - it's very close to Florence. However, I have relied on the Venere site for hotels here in Italy over the 9 years I've lived here and never had a problem. http://en.venere.com/hotels_prato/#o=price&r=0&m=0&f=C0001001&sb=1. there are 8 hotels that you can book online; most of them have reviews by past guests. The prices seem quite reasonable for Italy. There are also a number of cheaper places as well which do not have online booking, but do have contact information.

You might consider staying in Florence and taking the train to Prato - it's a 20 minute trip which costs 1.70 euro each way. There are 4 to 6 trains per hour, so this should be a viable option.
