The Excelsior Vittoria in Sorrento, Italy (Almalfi Coast).
The views are stunning from this hotel. And it is located directly in the city center. Sorrento is a small town, so the location of the hotel was literally in the main square making it so easy to go back and forth to your hotel. It was so great to wake up every morning on our balcony and have breakfast as we watched Mount Vesuvius in front of us. The grounds and views were indescribable. You must see for yourself. Walking around in the evening was so easy because of the hotels location. Also, the ferry to Capri leaves right from this hotels dock making it so convenient. We also took day trips to Pompeii, Herculean, Positano, Vietri and Almalfi. All which are very easy to get to from this hotel, making for great day trips. Check it out for yourself:
http://www.exvitt.it/ - It's expensive but, well worth it. We will never forget it. Enjoy!!

The Excelsior Hotel in Amalfi, is an excellent hotel, I spent some time there in 2004. It is set on the side of a cliff, with magnificent views. Our room had a balcony which overlooked a garden with tables and chairs, much like a beer garden, and looked out to the rugged coastline and the water.
