It takes about 2.5 hours to 2 hr 45 min to drive from Venice to Florence unless there's heavy traffic or weather delays - it's autostrada all the way. If you stop along the way for gas, food, etc it will add a little time.

It only takes about a couple of hours.
take the time to stop off, it's the beginning of Chianti Country, enjoy the time, enjoy the wine, black rooster, one of my more memorable, (if i can recall, he he) drops.
Don't be hasty so much more to see in Italy then the major cities, beleive me.

Trust me, it will take longer than 2.5-3 hours. I have driven on most of the major autostradas is Italy and can count on one hand the times I didn't run into major traffic on longer trips.

If you are making plans and want to be somewhere at a particular time, schedule at least 5 hours. You may get lucky and make it under that, but I wouldn't count on it.

Good luck!

By car is less then 3 hours it depends by the traffic that you might find on the highway passing the Appennins, the region around Bologna.

Last year it took 4 hours from Siena to Venice, so I guess from Florence it should be less; better if you do this trip on the weekends, you won't find trucks.

Bye
