are you nuts? of course it's not safe. If memory serves, Italy had it's fair share of homeless and "night-folk." In other words, that nice alleyway might be someone else's turf. Besides, do you really want to walk around all day after sleeping on a sleeping bag rolled down on concrete? If you can't afford a youth hostel, don't go.

you cannot, sorry

Pinguino
It's plain illegal. In some places you can't even *eat* on the street; of course we're talking about some specific places, usually the ones with artistic/cultural interest which are full of not so well-mannered tourist (both Italian and foreign), hence the prohibition.
But sleeping on the street, anyway and everywhere illegal.

Felicity???
No, you can't. Pinguino is right.
It's too risky. <*-*>

Fireball226

just as safe, maybe moreso than say cities like New York or London.

??? No it's not and I think it's not legal at all

Girlie
it's never safe to sleep on any street no matter where you are. before you go, I suggest you save some $$$$

Ale M
I did sleep on the street and got no harm, I would say it is pretty safe as long as you pick a place that is not too dark/hidden
