The customs regulations for Italy are here: http://www.iatatravelcentre.com/IT-Italy-customs-currency-airport-tax-regulations-details.htm
Note that meat from non-EU countries is prohibited. You cannot legally bring bacon from the US here. You really wouldn't want to do this anyway. Would you eat bacon that had been sitting out for hours at home? |

meat products are a no-go at customs, sorry
Reasoning: parasites in the meat could somehow get loose and wreak havoc on the native wildlife of (in this case) Italy. Its the same thing for fruits and vegetables (fruit flies) |

I've traveled with people who've brought beef jerky along. They were probably breaking the rules but they've never been hassled. Hormel does make a product that is sealed, doesn't need refrigeration and by all accounts is pretty tasty and by my calculations quite inexpensive. 72 pieces has to be about 3 pounds before cooking and it's only $8.50 at my Sam's Club.
Don't buy so much that you raise suspicion and if customs has a beef you're only out $9 and an apology. |
