Can someone recommend a good place to stay in both Venice and Florence, Italy?

I'm going to Italy in November, starting in Bologna, then traveling to both Venice and Florence and would love to get recommendations on where to stay.

We stayed at the Locanda Al Leon in Venice, nice place, private bathrooms, good breakfast. Right behind St Mark's.

In Florence I recommend Il Bargello, it is right in the middle of everything. Nice place.

If you want to go to the Uffizi in Florence, make sure you book your tickets online before you leave home. You have to reserve a time, otherwise you end up standing in a huge line for hours.

In Venice A La Commedia. In Florence I like the Relais Uffizi.

try venere.com
hotels.com

because the public transit systems in italy are great, look at the possibility of finding accommodations outside the cities. as as example, try mestre outside of Venice. the cost of taking a bus back into venice is about 1 or 2 euros, but the cost of a room in mestre can be 100s of euros cheaper. Same for Firenze and Bologna

In Venice: Best Western just in front of Mestre train station. Because it is in Mestre is cheaper, and the hotel is excellent. Then you can take a bus to Venice. http://www.hotelbologna.com/. It has a real good "Colazione". Check the reviews of this hotel, it is marvelous.

And in Florence I stayed in the Hotel Martelli. I liked it a lot. http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-356541-martelli_hotel-i
The "colazione" is very good.

In Venice, there is the Crown Plaza in Quarto D'Altino. There is a train station right behind the hotel that takes you to the islands of Venice(no noises though) and the hotel is absolutely wonderful and cheap at like 100euros a night.

for Venice, Alloggi Agli Artisti on www.best-bookings.com . It's extremely cheap and the hotel is decent.

No eleavator, you may need to climb up to the 4th floor. Take a rest after the second, don't faint.

I use the Venere.com site that someone else mentioned for hotels here in Italy. http://en.venere.com/italy/

I live about an hour north of Bologna, but stay there sometimes when I have an early flight. One place I really like there is the Millenhotel. There are a couple of hotels immediately in front of the train station. The Millenhotel is on the street just behind these. It's therefore close to the station, within easy walking distance of the area around the towers and the Duomo, and has good access to the trade show area. It's usually somewhat cheaper than the hotels in front of the station, but very nice. http://en.venere.com/italy/hotels_bologna/lame/hotel_millennhotel.html

Venice can be very expensive, not knowing your budget, I can recommend the Hotel Selvadego which is just outside Piazza San Marco on the Correr Museum end: http://en.venere.com/hotels_venice/san_marco/hotel_selvadego.html This is a very nice place which is a part of the Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal. I stay there during Carnevale every year. If that's above your price range, you can pick a specific area in Venice and sort by price or rating using Venere. Most of the hotels have reviews by past guests. Another other good options is: Violino d'Oro (near Piazza San Marco)http://en.venere.com/hotels_venice/san_marco/hotel_violino_d_oro.html

In Florence, the Hotel Duomo is very good: http://en.venere.com/hotels_florence/duomo/hotel_duomo.html. Again, there are a number of good options over a fairly wide span of price ranges which you can review on the venere site or other hotel booking site.
