The island of Burano. It is just a short boat ride (you can take a boat taxi) from the Piazza San Marco. The island is occupied mostly by fisherman and their families though there are vineyards there too. It was the best wine I've ever tasted. Supposedly the ocean air and the soil on the island give the wine its unique taste. Also, all the buildings are pastel colored,. They are so bright that the whole place has a happy feeling about it. There are canals on this island too, with bridges and plenty of shops. I had calamari and sunfish that had been caught that morning! Along with the wine, I have to say it was the best meal I had in Italy.
I definitely recommend going there if you get the chance. |

My main advice is once you've done the tourist bit, take to the back streets and " get lost". just melt into the city, take a coffee with the locals, watch what they do and enjoy yourself.
If you stay away from spending in the "tourist areas", it's a lot cheaper than London. |

Venice is one of my most favorite places in the world!!! The Bridge of Sighs is a great place and also St. Mark's Square. It's fun though too to just try to blend in and do some exploring on your own. Have fun!!! |

Hey, im australian and have just been to Italy. When we visited venice the things i enjoyed most were the gondola ride, St Marks square, the bridge of sighs and the murano glass factory. I stayed on dudeca island so it was only a short few minute ferry ride to each of those places except murano which took about 30-40 minutes. I recommend all of those places. Enjoy your trip :) |

I have visited Venice on a number of occasions, I normally stay in Mestre which is a 15 minute bus ride from Venice. The bus fare is just 1 euro. Mestre centre is based in the Piazza Ferretto, which has numereous bars, restaurants and shops. These are considerably cheaper than the center of Venice. If you are staying in Venice for a while, I suggest you get a period pass which can be used on the canals and local bus service. |

I went on a cruise in July where we visited Venice. IT was amazing. We went to St Marks square and the first thing I noticed was a child led on the floor covered head to foot in pigeons, the place was great, even if a little different. Loved the bridge of sighs, the rialto bridge and the trip in the gondola, the only down side was the bloke guiding the gondola never spoke a word. The Mirano glass was fantastic. I am sure you will love it |
