Can you recommend an itinerary for 3 days in Rome?

For the first week of May. I will also be spending 2 days in Florence, 2 in Venice and 3 in Paris in case you have any additional recommendations. Thanks!

It depends on exactly which days you will be in Rome. The Vatican Museums are closed on the 1st, 4th, and the 11th of May. If you want to go there, you'll need to plan to avoid those days. Reservations are not mandatory, but it's best to reserve a time because the lines are usually long to get in. http://mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/MV_Home.html

The ancient Roman sites (Colosseum, Forum, Palatine Hill, Circus Maximus, ... are pretty compact. Depending on how much of this you cover, you could combine this with San Pietro in Vincoli (St Peter's chains and a good Michelangelo sculpture), Capitoline Hill, the Vittoriano, Santa MAria Sopra Minerva and the Pantheon. While you're in the ancient Roman area see the Mouth of Truth and maybe the view through the keyhole at the Consiglio di Malta on Aventine Hill. This is worth the effort to find (close to Circus Maximus). This site give directions on how to find it: http://wikitravel.org/en/Rome/Aventino http://farm1.static.flickr.com/34/113318773_c9dfed0b7a.jpg

On a second day you could do the Vatican and Vatican museums. Castel Sant'Angelo is a very short walk from St Peter's and is worth a visit. The bridge in front of the fortress is very nice.

For a third day, you could see Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and Santa Maria Sopra Minerva (if you don't do these with the ancient Rome sights), Trevi fountain, the Spanish Steps, and Villa Borghese

You can do these in any any order for the three days.

I am assuming it's your first time in Europe. I find the number of days pretty tight. Here goes:

Day 1 Rome
AM Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Navona Square and St Peter's
PM Vatican Tour & Sistine Chapel

Day 2 Rome
AM Classical Rome Walking Tour - Collosseum, Roman Forum, Trajan Markets
PM Christian Rome Tour - Catacombs, Santa Maria Maggiore and Ancient Appian Way

Day 3 Rome - Florence

Day 4 Florence
AM Florence Renaissance Walking Tour including Accademia Gallery and Michelangelo's David
PM Tour to Pisa and The Leaning Tower from Florence

Day 5 Florence - Venice

Day 6 Venice
AM Murano, Burano and Torcello Half Day Sightseeing Tour
PM Venice Walk and Grand Canal Boat Tour

Day 7 Venice - Paris

Day 8 Paris Best of Paris - City Tour, Louvre Museum and Seine River Cruise (8 hrs)

Day 9 Paris Giverny and Versailles (9 hrs)

Day 10 Depart Paris

This is how I understood the number of days you mentioned. Hope this helps you plan out the trip.

When in Roma, see the Colosseum and catch a tour bus outside of it that will take you around the important places of intrest. You can do all this in a half of day. Rome is a big tourist trap.
