Can you visit "Tuscany" from Florence easily ?

Florence is in Tuscany. Florence (or Firenze) is in the province of Tuscany (or Toscana), same as Los Angeles is in California, so basically, you are asking how you get to California if you are in Los Angeles.

As far as being there, I would suggest you do it on your own. Guides tend to be expensive and you have to work on their time and as you mentioned you just want to kick back and relax. Do your own thing. Get a good map and give yourself time to do whatever you wish to do. This way, you are your own boss and do not have to worry about time constraints.

florence is in tuscany. It's the main city of it, the capital city of the region "tuscany" so of course you'll be able to see it. It's only an hour from Pisa (my town , by the way) famous for the leaning tower. It's about an hour from Siena, another lovely place that tourists love. Two days maybe are not enough to visit everything so i recommed you Pisa as you cannot miss one of the seven wonders,and the hills of Chianti that surround florence.

Taking for granted that you now know that Florence is in Tuscany, let's try to explain how to visit the region.

Trains serve it well. In an hour you can go to Pisa, Lucca, Siena that are worth a visit.
To go to San Gimignano you have to take at train to Poggibonsi and then a local bus.

There are also other places to visit, but the main choice is between staying in a place taking eventual daily excursions (I would do this as a foreigner) or driving across the country, that is also wonderful. But in December could be gloomy and grey.

I'm also going to Florence in December.

As the previous respondants have indicated, Florence is in Tuscany. But I'm assuming you refer to other Tuscan locales like Sienna, Lucca and Pisa.

All of these are easily accessible from Florence, and all make lovely day trips. Consequently, it wouldn't be necessary to get a separate hotel. In fact, when I'm in Florence, I normally make at least one excursion to the towns I've listed.

My favorite way to do this is to rent a car. Stock up on some wonderful Italian cheeses and salume, then buy some lovely Tuscan wine when you get to your destination. You'll be in for a memorable experience.

If you prefer to visit cities, go by train to Lucca,Pisa,Arezzo..
I think is better to rent a car for a couple of days ,buy a map and visit small ancient towns like Volterra, Montepulciano,Siena,this way you'll have the chance to see the country, even if december is not the best season to do it,Tuscany is beautiful!
Why don't you wait to see what the weather will be in those days?
cold,rain,snow?Better to be in a city....
not that nasty?Drive around....
If you drive,I suggest you to don't take the "autostrada"(you have to pay for it and you don't see any nice view) and try smallest roads.
If you'll like a place better then another,I'm sure you'll find an hotel easy at the moment you decide to do it :ask locals,they'll help you!
food is good almost anywhere,voiding tourist places is also not too expensive.

P.S.:pay attention at your pocket, a lot of poor people from east europe came to Italy lately and rubbery is becoming a biggest problem then in the past.

Florence is in Tuscany. Tuscany is the region, Florence is a city in this region! There are many other beautiful cities in Tuscany so see as well eg Siena, Greve, Pisa (just for the Leaning Tower) etc. Look up a guide book or Tuscany on the internet and decide the other cities you want to see. You can do tours or see them yourself, its fairly easy to get around in Italy. You can hire a car or take trains or buses.

Florence is in Tuscany. Florence is easy to get around. Almost everything is in walking distance. When you get there, find a internet cafe, they usually have informations on what to do there.
