There isn't a lot of cheap food in Venice. Especially when you think of the Euro conversion.
There is a Burger King and McDonalds but consider if you REALLY want to eat here when you are in Italy? It is more expensive than at home there too.
You'll find your cheapest bets are picking up a slice of pizza or paninis that you find at many locations in Italy.
Be careful when you go up to a counter and order. If they ask you if it is for here or to go, check if there is a service or cover charge. A lot of places (unlike here) charge you a cover fee if you want to sit in their seats and eat in. You won't find this at Burger King or McDonalds though. |

I disagree with the previous answers, and stay out of McDonald's! Why would you go to Italy and eat at McDonalds. I don't remember the names of all the restaurants that we ate at, but I know none of them were that expensive. For the two of us less than 50Euro a night.
Eat at your hotel for breakfast. Most hotels include this in the price. We stayed at the Hotel Abbazia. The breakfast was very satisfying and filling. For lunch we bought panini or pizza and ate in the piazzas. It was less than 10Euro a day for both of us. Finally, pay attention to the restaurants you are passing during the day as you are meandering down the alleys. The farther from the main canal and the deeper into the alleys you go you will find many delcious reasonably priced dinners.
Depending on where you are from, dining in Italy can be a totally different experience. My husband and I are not very large eaters, but we wanted to try alot, so we opted not to try many of the courses that were offered and still too stuffed for dessert. For example we shared an appetizer, pasta course and meat/fish course. It was always enough food. Also, if you drink wine ask for a carafe of the house wine. It's generally pretty good. I love wine, so I found a wine shop near the termini and bought wine to have outside with lunch or in our hotel. It's a lot less expensive than buying it in restaurants or paying at the bar in your hotel. |

Nothing is cheap in Venice - they'll soon even charge you to breath the air.
OK now, if you really want cheap then you can shop at the supermarkets. The two most popular are the COOP and the BILLA. You can buy wines, & beers, they have deli counters, bread....
There is a a Billa on the Zattere next to San Basiglio and one on Strada Nuova. The COOP is located next to Piazzale Roma and there is one in Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio (there are several others but can't remember them at the moment). |

Hello,
You will not find good cheap food around any of the touristy spots. The closer you are to St. Marks, the higher the prices. There is a McDonalds between the rialto bridge and St. Marks. Other than that, just go down some of the back streets and stop into the smaller restaurants.
