It depends on where you are staying. When I was there, the cheapest way to get to Rome was by RyanAir. Just buy your ticket at least a week in advance.

Try to avoid using taxis when you can and go to hostels rather than to hotels. Use public transportation and eat in non-expensive restaurants.

depends. you can take the bus. you can also take the metro. remember to check the times. when i went to rome, from siena to rome which was three hours...it was about 18 euros. if you order ahead online, they will give you a small discount.
