Nothing cheap in Venice but you can try:
Cà Altana, Bed & Breakfast
Call Gian Luca Luccarda at +39.041.5202354
He's got a great home... a 3 floor walk up but worth every step because you are above the city overlooking the roof tops!

old know all
You can't mention Venice and cheap in the same sentence.

Venice is just amazing, there's nowhere quite like it. Unfortunately it's not cheap and certainly none of the hotels in and around Piazza San Marco are.
If you want to push the boat out (literally too) then try San Clemente Island. I stayed there last year and it's absolutely gorgeous!!

Not so sure about cheap, but I recommend the Orion hotel, it's 3 stars, and pretty good! Not terrible, not luxurious, but then again it's only the hotel! Very close to St. Marks Square and the Rialto bridge.. Definately less than a minute for SMS, and around 5 for Rialto.. =]

Bring a sleep sack with you - Venice is the worst I've experienced in Italy in regards to bed bugs.

Was there in April and this time came prepared - shook out the sheets, sprayed the mattress with bug spray and after remaking the bed later, I still slept in my sleep sack. My Italian husband stopped making fun of me in the morning when he had bed bug bites!

My advice. Venice is a fantastic city and i love it. Try to keep out of the central hotels, they will cost a fortune. Get on the web and explore this travel company.

If you can't fall in love with Venice, well, say no more.

Hi guys!! I'm italian and I live in Venice. Venice is really expensive, especially for tourists that are often ripped off... I mean.. You must pay attention when, for example, you buy glass, the famous venecian glass. There are real things and also chinese things. The chinese things are the small glass animals instead bracelets and necklaces are real...
then... if you want you can find a cheap hostel in the centre (venice anyway isn't big) but it'll probably be a bit... dirty... ihihi
Anyway,.. you'll find it.
enjoy your stay in venice because it's the best cty in the world and you'll be amazed by it... it's wonderful (like the whole italy as well)!!!!!!!
bye bye
by a venecian girl
kissessssssss

P:S: I've read all the other comments and that's true: venice is dirty but that's not our fault... Restauring is really complicated here because it's all very old and there's the water that is so dirty... and then there are too many tourists that leave rubbish everywhere

Try Hotel al Piave. It is nice, and I believe it to be very reasonable.
