Definitely the metro/subway. It's fast and cheap and drops you off within 2 mins of the Vatican. Good Advice-buy a day pass-- or week pass if you're there longer. Much cheaper and you can come and go on the subway as you like. You can buy them at any subway window. Remember to wear comfy shoes and bring a bottle of water with you in your backpack or tote. It's a big place!

I don't think you can really walk it because you'll have to walk through country-side and highways. I suggest that you take one of those airport shuttles. That's what I've always done and it cost like $20 per person.

Not really cheap but, it's cheaper than a taxi and it'll get you to the Vatican fast and direct then the train.

Walk-- it's free and not sure the distance but the price is right

you should take a train from the airport to termini- the central station. From there you can walk but it is a good distance- it might take you about half an hour- or you can get the metro.

You can take the train to Termini station (€10.00 about 30mins).

From there you take the metro A-red line (€1.00) direction Battistini, you should get off on the stop Ottaviano-San Pietro (6 stops)... the metro ride should take you around 10mins.
