Contacting friends from Italy while only having their cell phone numbers? |
I met some friends while I was in Rome, Italy and they gave me their cell phone numbers. My international cell phone has been shut off and I can't call them from my american verizon cell phone. Is there anyway to contact them just by having their cell phone numbers? Maybe a way to text them from the internet or something? |

You could buy a calling card and call them using it on your land line... Try and find a calling card that you can use to call cell phones as the prices to call cell phones are much higher than calling a house phone..land line.

The country code for Italy is 39
To call a cell phone from the USA dail
011 39 and the cell phone number.....
ex: 011 the international exit code for the USA and Canada
ex. if you are calling within Europe, the international code is 00
011 39 347 654 1234
or 00 39 347 654 1234
You can text them using your verizon cell phone ... Do you have text messaging on your phone?
To text them, you must put the number in like this:
+396541234
The plus sign must be present
+ = represents the international exit code 011 or 00 so you do not have to put it.
There are some sms sites , but you have to pay to use them nowadays. They used to be free, but now they are hard to find- free anymore.
I did find these two

You can also use Skype

You could try getting an international calling card, but they are not the most reliable thing. When I was in Italy, calling home, I used a calling card. Once you learn to use it, it is fine. You can get them at really any convienence store. |

try skype.
www.skype.com
its like a free internet to internet calling method
but it will cost you if you call their mobiles, but it might be a way to get in contact with them. |

You can try to text them or call them with Skype. A call to an Italian cell phone costs 0.25 euro ($0.39) per minute. Not sure about text rates but pretty cheap too. All you have to do is open a skype account and top it up (you can pay the top up with credit card or paypal). |

No No No
Here's what you do that will work and not cost you a bundle.
Go to this site:
http://www.tel3advantage.com/
Set up an account and prepay a small amount of money into your account. You then call an access number in the US and then you enter the number in Italy. You will need to dial the international access code 011 and then the country code 39 then the cell phone number you have.
This will be about as cheap a way as you can get to an Italian cell phone, but it will not be really cheap. In Italy (unlike the US) cell phone calls are free to the recipient, which means the whole cost is paid by the caller. Calls to cell phones are much more expensive than calls to regular land lines in Italy.
So after making contact you might want to explore finding another number to call or using one of the VOIP services like skype.
I've been using this service for years. When we are in italy (about a month each year) I set family and friends up with access so they can call our Italian cell phone without paying full rates. |

I think I know what you mean... unfortunately you can't find out their complete names or adresses just having a cell phone number because of the law protecting privacy; but I'm sure you can send SMS to them - as you've already been told; just add +39 to the number you've been given and it will work out.
good luck! |
