The eurostar, the fastest train in Italy, will take about 4/5 hours to arrive in Rome from Milano Centrale...
believe i've made it just some months ago and...you won't have enough time to visit and enjoy Rome, sorry...Can't you stay there a little more?

anyway, for more info visit www.trenitalia.com, wich it's in english also...

can't you take an airplane from Malpensa or Linate or Orio al Serio instead?

well...good luck and enjoy Italy!

the fastest train is the Eurostar, which takes 4h and a half from Milan to Rome. the Intercity, instead, takes about 6 hours.
i think you should go to italian railways official site:

www.trenitalia.com

where you can book the seat as well.

SUMMER!
the fastes train from Milano to Roma is named "Intercity". It takes about 4 hours to get in Roma! :-)

You won't have time to see enough to make the 4.5 hour trip worthwhile. http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

I suggest Como as a viable alternative: http://www.thetravelzine.com/it_w2004_1.htm

Hope that helps!
