If you buy pizza by the slice of course with hands!
If you eat pizza in a restaurant it is served unsliced so, as the diameter is more or less 35-40 cm (and I hope your mouth is not that wide....) and folding it in four make it too thick to be easily eaten we divide pizza in slices and eat it both with hands or utensils (if the restaurant is very elegant using utensil will be recommended).
Speaking for myself I have a strange habit, I first eat all the crust that is less tasty and then the center so I'm forced to use utensils,(always referring to restaurant served pizza not sliced one).... 'bye |

It depends on the situation and the individual. Many older Italians here use utensils - especially when sitting in a restaurant. There are more younger Italians that you see using their hands. Generally when you order a pizza here it comes unsliced unless you ask for it to be cut. If you're in one of the fast food places where you get pizza by the slice, or if we order pizza in for a working lunch in the office and order it sliced, then people commonly eat it using their hands. |

In a restaurant, with a knife and fork...at home however they like. Italians usually eat an pizza by themselves...not a slice unless it's just for a mid-day snack. For example, you wont find an Italian ordering a pizza and then dividing it with his/her friends..... The toppings are different too. Ham and pineapple on a pizza sounds disgusting to 99% of Italians. You'll only find this pizza in really touristy areas.
I live in Italy. |

Not really. In restaurants they eat with with and knife, like we do... when they take out a pizza by the slice, they fold it over and eat it that way, yes, as we do, with hands. |

The answer is "both".
There are two different ways of ordering pizza. The first is what I call New York style where there is a display of several different types of pizza. You ask for a piece of the kind you want, they put it in the oven to warm it up then serve it on a napkin for you to eat in your hands on the go.
The other way is ordering pizza off a menu at a sit-down restaurant. It typically cost about 10 euros. The pizza will be made to order and brought to you on a plate (it is not cut into slices like it is in the US) which you eat with utensils. |
